Guangzhou Imposes 21-Day Quarantine Before Canton Fair

Guangzhou, the capital of South China’s Guangdong Province, will require all overseas arrivals to undergo a 21-day quarantine at designated isolation centres prior to the city’s hosting of the Canton Fair, as the country has seen a COVID-19 surge centred in East China’s Fujian Province.

The new quarantine rules were announced in a statement on Saturday, and they will go into effect on Saturday and last until October 20.

All international arrivals will be subjected to a 21-day quarantine at Guangzhou-arranged isolation centres, rather than 14 days in the centres followed by seven days at home.

The improved COVID-19 prevention and control measures were put in place ahead of the 130th China Import and Export Fair, one of the world’s largest trade shows, which begins on October 14 in Guangzhou.

Those who had visited COVID-19 medium-high risk areas in China were also subjected to a 14-day quarantine at isolation centres, according to the statement.

According to the statement, epidemic prevention and control efforts will be bolstered at all public venues such as markets and theatres.
