Effective January 1, 2023, real-time surveillance videos in Shanghai kindergartens will be kept for a minimum of 90 days under new regulations.
It is the country’s first regional law for preschool children, approved by the town’s People’s Congress on Wednesday.
Corporal punishment, discrimination, insults, abuse and sexual abuse are absolutely forbidden in kindergartens and nursery schools.
The law also stipulates that kindergartens and nurseries must conduct background and health checks on new employees prior to their recruitment.
People who have a criminal record, a history of violence or sexual assault are strictly forbidden to work in nursery schools.
