Flights to China from Singapore to increase to pre-Covid levels

“Singapore wants to increase its flights to China from Singapore pre-Covid levels” Vivian Balakrishnan, Singapore’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, said the government wants to see the number of flights and other connections to China return to pre-Covid 19 levels.

The Straits Times, a local newspaper, reported on his remarks. They were created while I was in Beijing.

According to The Straits Times, which cited statements made by Mr. Balakrishnan during a meeting with China’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Qin Gang, there are currently 56 flights per week connecting Singapore and China, down from 400 flights per week before the Covid-19 outbreak.

The Singaporean official stated, “One of the KPIs [key performance objectives] I have been set is to try to get this [flight] number back to what it was as quickly as possible.”

From February 19 to February 21, Mr. Balakrishnan led a delegation from Singapore to Beijing for a three-day visit.

Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement on Monday that China and Singapore “agreed on the significance of stepping up measures to promote post-pandemic recovery,” including through the “full resumption” of flights between the two countries.

As the country shifted away from its former “zero-Covid” policy, mainland China eliminated quarantine restrictions for visitors entering from outside as of January 8.
