Shanghai residents aged 6 to 11 will be vaccinated against COVID19 beginning at 8 p.m. on Thursday October 28.
According to the Shanghai COVID19 prevention and control leadership office, children in this age group can book their vaccinations through the health cloud app, or 建康云.
Minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian to the vaccination site where they have made a reservation at the time specified.
There are three types of inactivated vaccines for children:
- Beijing Bio-Institute of Biological Products Co Ltd
- Wuhan Institute of Biological Products Co Ltd
- Sinovac Biotech
All of them necessitate two shots to be taken three to eight weeks apart.
The dose given to this age group is the same as that given to adults.
The vaccination is completely free of charge.
People who need to be accompanied by their parents or guardians must also bring their ID cards or 户口本 (book of registered permanent residency). Before being immunized, they must show the bar codes they received when booking the vaccination and sign an informed consent form.
They will be subjected to a 30-minute medical examination immediately following vaccination.
Following immunisation, a light and healthy diet is advised, with spicy foods and seafood being avoided.
People with questions about the vaccination can call the city’s health care hotline at 12320.
The government said that a vaccination plan for children of expatriates, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan, as well as overseas Chinese, will be announced in the future.
