Authorities around the world are imposing travel restrictions on Chinese visitors as Covid-19 cases in the country rise following the country’s relaxation of “zero-Covid” rules.
The following are the rules for visitors from China (updated on Jan 10, 2023):

Austria | Beginning January 8, travelers from China will be required to provide a negative Covid test result less than 48 hours before departure. |
Australia | Beginning January 5, all passengers will need a negative test result no later than two days before departure from China. |
Canada | All passengers will need a negative test result no later than two days before departure from China. |
Chile | All passengers (including those who have been to China within 7 days) will need a negative test result no later than two days before departure from China. Testing on arrival and 5-day quarantine for those who test positive. |
Costa Rica | Travelers from China will be required to have a negative Covid-19 test no later than 72 hours before departure. A full course of vaccination for anyone over 12 years old (including booster shot). |
Finland | Beginning January 5, travelers from China will be required to provide a negative Covid test result less than 48 hours before departure. Masks for all passengers from China. |
France | Beginning January 5, travelers from China will be required to provide a negative Covid test result less than 48 hours before departure. Masks for all passengers from China. Random RAT testing on arrival. |
Ghana | Beginning January 6, travelers from China (including transit passengers) will be required to provide a negative Covid test result less than 48 hours before departure. Passengers will also be tested on arrival. |
Germany | All passengers will need a negative PCR result no later than 48 hours before departure or an RAT test 48 no later than 48 hours before arrival from China, and Macau S.A.R (including those who have been to these places 10 within 10 days and transit passengers). |
Greece | Beginning January 5, travelers from China will be required to provide a negative Covid test result less than 48 hours before departure. |
India | All passengers will need a negative test result no later than two days before departure from China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, and Thailand. Passengers from those countries who exhibit symptoms or test positive will be quarantined. |
Israel | Beginning December 30 2022, travelers from China (except Israeli Citizens) will be required to provide a negative Covid test result less than 48 hours before departure. |
Italy | All passengers will be required to undergo Covid-19 antigen swabs and virus sequencing. Malpensa, Milan’s main airport, had already begun testing passengers arriving from Beijing and Shanghai. |
Japan | Beginning January 8, all passengers will need a negative test result no later than 72 hours before departure from China. Those who test positive must be quarantined for seven days |
Malaysia | All inbound travelers will be screened for fever and the wastewater from aircraft arriving from China for Covid-19 will be tested. |
Morocco | Ban on people arriving from China, regardless of nationality, beginning January 3. |
Netherlands | Beginning January 10, travelers from China will be required to provide a negative Covid test result less than 48 hours before departure. Testing certificates will be checked on arrival and fines will be issued for those without. Masks for all passengers from China. |
Portugal | Beginning January 7, travelers from China will be required to provide a negative PCR test result less than 48 hours before departure. |
Qatar | Beginning January 3, travelers from China will be required to provide a negative PCR test result less than 48 hours before departure. |
South Korea | Beginning January 5, travelers from China will be required to provide a negative PCR test result less than 48 hours or RAT test less than 24 hours before departure and after arrival. |
Spain | Travelers from China will be required to have a negative Covid-19 test or a full course of vaccination against the disease upon arrival in Spain. |
Sweden | Beginning January 7, travelers from China (except Swedish and EU Citizens) will be required to provide a negative Covid test result less than 48 hours before departure. |
Taiwan, China | Starting January 1, all passengers on direct flights from China, as well as those arriving by boat at two offshore islands, will be required to undergo PCR tests upon arrival. |
United Kingdom | Beginning January 5, all passengers aged two and up will need a negative test result no later than two days before departure from China (including direct flights and transit passengers). Voluntary testing on arrival. |
United States | Beginning January 5, all passengers aged two and up will need a negative test result no later than two days before departure from China, Hong Kong, or Macau (including transit passengers). |
